There was a time when finding “your perfume” felt like a goal in itself. The idea of a signature scent promised a fragrance that could stay with you for years, become part of your identity, and even make people recognize you by it. That relationship with fragrance, however, is finally beginning to change. Today, we collect scents for different moments in life. And with Rare Beginnings Eau de Parfum, Rare Beauty seems to have understood that shift perfectly.

From the signature scent to a personal fragrance wardrobe
It has become increasingly rare to talk about having just one perfume. Open almost any fragrance collection today and you’ll find different scents for different occasions: one for daytime, another for date nights, one for traveling, another for summer. Perfume has stopped being a permanent signature and become a much more versatile way of expressing how we want to feel at a particular moment.
As expected, that shift has also transformed the way brands approach perfumery. They are no longer trying to create “the ultimate fragrance,” but rather earn a place within a personal fragrance wardrobe. Rare Beginnings Eau de Parfum, the latest release from Selena Gomez’s beauty brand, fits naturally into that conversation.

Created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette, Rare Beginnings blends sweet and floral notes.
Rare Beginnings: much more than a new fragrance
If Rare Eau de Parfum marked the brand’s first step into perfumery, this new fragrance confirms that Rare Beauty is building its own olfactory universe. One where products are rarely introduced as standalone objects and instead become part of a broader conversation about how we understand beauty today.
Created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette, Rare Beginnings blends both gourmand and floral notes. Pear, pistachio, gardenia, jasmine, lotus flower, vanilla, and pink sugar come together with cedarwood to create a scent that feels bright, warm, and surprisingly versatile. A fragrance that moves away from overly intense compositions in favor of something lighter, designed to accompany not only different moments, but different memories as well.

The bottle: the beauty of thoughtful design
At Rare Beauty, design has never been purely aesthetic. Since launching the brand, Selena Gomez has championed products that are easier to use for people with different levels of mobility. That same philosophy is present in Rare Beginnings.
While maintaining the brand’s minimalist aesthetic, the bottle features an ergonomic cap and a larger spray actuator. A decision that reflects one of the conversations Rare Beauty has embraced from the very beginning: the idea that design can also be a form of inclusion. After all, good design doesn’t just change the way a product looks—it also changes the way people interact with it.
A Good design doesn’t just transform the way a product looks; it also changes how people interact with it.
One fragrance, endless possibilities
Personalization is also part of the proposal. Alongside Rare Beginnings, Rare Beauty introduced two Fragrance Layering Balms—Fruity Pear and Sweet Marshmallow—designed to transform the scent and create different interpretations of the same fragrance. While the first enhances its fresher, fruitier notes, the second adds a sweeter, creamier finish.
This is perhaps one of Rare Beauty’s most interesting ideas. Finding a fragrance that represents us is no longer enough; we also want the freedom to adapt it depending on the moment, the occasion, or even our mood.

Epilogue
Rare Beginnings also reflects a much broader conversation within perfumery. More and more brands are building fragrances around an emotion, a story, or a particular stage of life. The scent itself still matters, but it is no longer the only starting point.
In that sense, it’s no coincidence that Rare Beauty chose to talk about new beginnings. Not because a fragrance can truly represent change, but because we increasingly see identity as something fluid rather than fixed. Rare Beginnings becomes a reflection of that idea.
