It’s no secret that beauty tends to look toward what comes next. The next ingredient, the newest formula, the launch that promises to change everything. But amid an endless stream of novelty, some brands endure. The ones that survive the industry’s relentless pace because, somehow, they have found a place of their own—in our skin, our routines, and the way we think about skincare. That is precisely the territory Xamania has spent the past 16 years building.
For Vanesa Pistone, co-founder of the Mexican brand, that sense of identity is precisely what has allowed Xamania to keep growing without losing itself along the way. Between formulas born from intuition, ingredients that have accompanied the brand for years, and a curiosity that continues to make room for new ways of creating, Xamania has grown without separating efficacy from sensoriality, or science from ritual. Sixteen years later, its place in the industry is best understood not by everything that has changed, but by what it still recognizes as its own.
A Formula for Staying
In conversation with Pistone, one thing quickly becomes clear: a good formula doesn’t need to overcomplicate its purpose. A Xamania formula must first meet one essential requirement: it has to work. Responding to a trend or justifying a new launch isn’t enough; there has to be a reason for it to become part of someone’s routine. Then comes a concept Vanesa describes as “a delicious formula”: one where texture, feel, and scent have the power to transport you somewhere else.
Perhaps that is why, when asked to tell the story of Xamania’s 16 years through five products, it begins with those that prove staying can also be a form of evolution. Three very different products connected by the same logic: making care something that earns its place precisely because it remains useful.

Staying Also Means Moving
Sixteen years are enough for a brand to discover that staying true to an identity doesn’t mean always doing the same thing. Sometimes, evolving means taking the same way of understanding beauty into places it hasn’t been before. At Xamania, that expansion has unfolded across new categories, ingredients, and formulas, while one question seems to remain unchanged: how can each new product still feel unmistakably its own?
The Tinted Balm and BB Cream—the final two products in Pistone’s selection to tell the story of these 16 years—may be the clearest examples. Both took Xamania into makeup, but they did so from a place the brand already knew: skincare. The first begins with a shea butter base; the second, with a tinted cream and SPF 30. “To me, it represents a different way of thinking about makeup,” Vanesa explains.
That evolution can also be traced through ingredients. While shea butter, rosehip, avocado, and argan have been part of Xamania’s formulas throughout these 16 years, today fruit acids, probiotics, matcha, and bakuchiol have expanded its vocabulary.

Between Science and Intuition
Over 16 years, the conversation around beauty has changed. Today, we talk about actives, percentages, studies, and results with a familiarity that simply didn’t exist before. But for Xamania, engaging with that conversation has never meant choosing between the natural and the scientific. Intuition remains part of the starting point; evidence is a way of supporting it.
Behind the formulas is an in-house laboratory, a technical team, and, when appropriate, external analyses and studies that help demonstrate efficacy. Vanesa describes it almost as a meeting point between the two worlds: “In a way, we end up validating our intuition.”
Evolving means taking the same way of understanding beauty into places it hasn’t been before.
Ritual Was Never an Accessory
Long before words like ritual and intention became commonplace in the language of beauty, Xamania already understood care as something that went beyond the skin. “For me, there is no Xamania without the mystical, the symbolic, and the ritual,” Pistone says. It isn’t an aesthetic built around the products or, as she herself puts it, “a layer of marketing”: it is embedded in the brand’s origins and in the way it creates.
For Vanesa, ritualizing means “bringing intention to the everyday” and recognizing the mystery that already exists in life. It is a philosophy impossible to separate from her own path: “I can’t separate my own spiritual evolution from Xamania’s evolution.” And perhaps that is where the brand becomes most personal: its formulas, products, and rituals also speak to the place Vanesa is creating from at any given moment.

What Comes Next Is Still Xamania
When it comes to Xamania’s future, curiosity seems to hold the same place it did at the beginning. Its upcoming launches only prove there are still new ways to explore a familiar universe. A rosehip + bakuchiol cream, a calendula soap for sensitive skin, a calendula face cream, and a solid rosemary shampoo are among the next products taking shape.
But that universe is also beginning to extend beyond beauty. New stores and a move into fashion—a territory the brand previously explored through a line of kimonos and could now continue with dresses—keep shaping the woman Vanesa imagines as “connected to nature, to the cosmos, fresh and free.”
Because perhaps, after 16 years, Xamania’s next chapter isn’t about becoming something different, but about discovering just how far what it already is can go.
